The greatest enemy of design
is the looming sense of unfilled space. When you are trying to
decorate your home, there will be parts that come easily, and
your decor will be inspired and coordinated. However, there's
always that one area that just doesn't seem to want to take to
anything you put there--no matter how many lamps, tables, paintings,
or chairs you put there, nothing seems to fill it.
What many people don't realize
is that it's good to have negative space, because it adds substance
to the areas where you have decorated. However, it can be stark
and oppressive, which is why many people shy away from it. The
trick is to make your negative space look intentional, and framing
it is perhaps the best way to convey this. |
